Teresa Cardona's Rural Crime Novels Map Literary Route Through San Lorenzo de El Escorial

Spanish crime novelist Teresa Cardona, author of the Blecker and Cano series set in San Lorenzo de El Escorial, has created a literary map guiding readers through the town's key locations from her books. The route, starting at Plaza de la Constitución, includes the Casita del Infante, the monastery, the Paseo de la Horizontal, and the Las Casillas neighborhood with its active convent of discalced Carmelites. Cardona, who writes under the pseudonym Teresa Todenhoefer, has published four novels in the series with Siruela: 'Un bien relativo', 'La carne del cisne', 'A la vista de todos', and 'Los dos lados'. She emphasizes that the rural setting enhances credibility, as characters solve crimes through local interrogation and deduction rather than high-tech methods. The series features inspectors Karen Blecker and Cano, who investigate in the small town, and Cardona notes that residents have embraced their literary portrayal, with some even requesting to appear as victims or murderers. The next installment, currently in development, will also feature the neighboring town of El Escorial. Cardona has also published crime fiction in France under the pseudonym Éric Todenne, collaborating with writer Eric Damien on titles including 'Un travail à finir' and 'Terres brûlées', featuring Lieutenant Andreani.
