Teodoro González de León: A Century of Mexican Architecture
Teodoro González de León, who was born in Mexico City in 1926, played a pivotal role in the realm of Mexican architecture. He attended the Escuela Nacional and gained experience in Mario Pani's office, where he contributed to Ciudad Universitaria. In 1949, he became the sole Mexican member of Le Corbusier's studio. His initial projects featured residential designs and an IMSS Social Services Unit. Collaborating with Abraham Zabludovsky, he created housing complexes and later took on institutional projects, including the Escuela de Derecho in Tampico and the Mexican Embassy in Brasilia. In the 1980s, he pioneered concave facades and remodeled the Auditorio Nacional in the 1990s. His later works included the Virreyes and Manacar towers. González de León passed away at 90, leaving behind a significant legacy in concrete architecture. A documentary, 'Teodoro, en concreto,' was produced for his 90th birthday, celebrating the centenary of his birth.
