Teodora Axente's Four Institutional Projects in Siena

Teodora Axente, a Romanian artist hailing from Sibiu and currently residing in Cluj-Napoca since 1984, has forged a significant bond with Siena through four institutional initiatives led by Cristiano Leone, the president of Santa Maria della Scala. Her two-year collaboration culminated in her inaugural institutional exhibition in Italy, titled "Metamorfosi del Sacro," which debuted in November 2025. This exhibition showcases 25 pieces influenced by the museum's frescoes, relics, and medical tools. Curated by Riccardo Freddo and Michelina Eremita, it reinterprets various items as secular relics, emphasizing the body's fragility. Fourteen of these works will be on view until August 2026. Axente is associated with the Cluj School, alongside notable artists such as Adrian Ghenie and Victor Man. Additionally, a second project, "Rosa d'oro," is highlighted.
