Tengbom Renovates Tensta Secondary School into Contemporary Campus

In 2024, architecture firm Tengbom completed the transformation of Tensta Secondary School in Spånga-Tensta, Sweden, into a contemporary multi-tenant educational campus. Originally built between 1980 and 1984 by Gösta Uddén of Uddén Arkitektkontor, the culturally significant structure retains its spatial openness, winter garden, and robust material palette. The careful renovation adapts the complex to modern technical, environmental, and pedagogical standards, while preserving its strong architectural identity. Led by principal architect Josefin Larsson (SAR/MSA), the project demonstrates how sensitive reuse can extend the lifespan of important public architecture, reducing environmental impact and safeguarding cultural value. Photographer Felix Gerlach documented the completed campus, which covers 15 m². The project was curated by Nina Vuga.
