Tengbom Architects Renovate 17th-Century Stjärnorp Castle Ruin Near Linköping

Tengbom architects completed a 1,000-square-meter renovation of the Stjärnorp Castle ruin in 2022, located west of Lake Roxen outside Linköping. The project was curated by Hadir Al Koshta, with lead architect Caroline Hahn Nilsson and office leads Erik Wikerstål of Wikerstål Arkitekter - Tengbom overseeing the design team. The original castle was constructed between 1654 and 1662, likely designed by Nicodemus Tessin the Elder, and featured a four-storey main building with a stair tower and two wings. It appears in Erik Dahlbergh's 1697 publication Suecia Antiqua et Hodierna. Engineering and consulting involved Tyréns, Balksten Byggnadsvård, and SWECO, while general contractors included Miljöbyggarna Entreprenad and several specialized firms. The client was Slottstornet, and photography was handled by Felix Gerlach.
