Ten New York exhibitions to see in March and April 2017
New York Art Week's excitement carries over into a fantastic lineup of gallery and museum exhibits that will last through spring 2017. At Bureau, Tom Holmes blends Warhol-inspired pop art with chaotic scribbles and Powerpuff Girls imagery, using an Eggo waffle box design and a foil-brick grave plot. Sascha Braunig presents eerie painted silhouettes at Foxy Production, following her show at MoMA PS1. Peter Acheson’s subtle works at Brennan and Griffin celebrate Eva Hesse. The Met Breuer hosts a major retrospective of Marisa Merz, featuring her 1966 aluminum Living Sculpture and knitted art. SculptureCenter showcases chocolate sculptures and drawings by the Congolese Plantation Workers Art League. Pratt Manhattan Gallery’s exhibit, curated by Jason Stopa, highlights figurative painting since 2000, showcasing artists like Jackie Gendal and Gina Beavers. Kader Attia’s installation at Lehmann Maupin includes an office cubicle with videos exploring colonial trauma. Anoka Faruqee’s optical paintings at Koenig and Clinton examine rainbow and bruise effects, while Leonhard Hurzlmeier makes his U.S. solo debut at Rachel Uffner with abstract female figures. Finally, 11R features works from Sojourner Truth Parsons, Sean Steadman, and Veronika Pausova.
