Ten Must-See Works at Antwerp's KMSKA Museum

The Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp (KMSKA), reopened in 2022 after renovation and expansion, displays 650 works from its collection of over 8,000, spanning the 14th to 21st centuries. Among highlights are Jean Fouquet's 'Madonna Surrounded by Seraphim and Cherubim' (mid-15th century), considered the museum's masterpiece; Peter Paul Rubens' 'Madonna Enthroned Adored by Saints,' undergoing a two-year restoration visible in the Rubens Studio; Pieter Brueghel the Elder's 'The Wedding Dance' (16th-century copy); Auguste Rodin's 'Pierre de Wissant' from 'The Burghers of Calais,' created for the museum; Jan van Eyck's 'Madonna at the Fountain' (1439), his last known signed work; the largest Ensor collection worldwide, including 'The Intrigue' and 'The Oyster Eater'; Hans Memling's surviving panels of a lost polyptych for the church of Santa Maria la Real in Najera, Spain; Günther Uecker's 'Dark Field' (contemporary nail sculpture); Clara Peeters' fish still life; and 'The Light Comes Toward Us' by Nick Mattan and Angelo Tijssens, projecting Bernard Dewulf's poetry onto the floor.
