Teleno Studio transforms 50 m² Madrid apartment with sophisticated atmosphere

architecture-design · 2026-05-18

Teleno Studio has completed the renovation of a 56 m² apartment in a 19th-century building in central Madrid. The project, which began with a complex compartmentalized layout and deteriorated wooden structure, resulted in an open, fluid floor plan. A central oak-clad volume houses the bedroom and bathroom, freeing the perimeter for living areas. Ceilings were raised to the original three meters. The kitchen, designed as a dark wood volume with an emperor marble insert, becomes the social hub. The design emphasizes a deliberately dim atmosphere using linen curtains, olive-green textiles, and floor-to-ceiling mirrors. The material palette includes deep, desaturated tones, velvets, glazed ceramics, and dark lacquers. The bedroom features a large oak sliding door, blue accents, and bedside tables of perforated limestone. The en-suite bathroom uses red travertine marble and metallic microcement. The apartment incorporates vintage designer pieces, Italian lighting from the 1970s and 1980s, an Akari lamp by Isamu Noguchi, ceramics from Kyoto and Osaka, a 1960s ceramic vase by actor Jean Marais, a rectangular steel and slate coffee table by Dutch designer Floris Fiedeldij for Armeta, and a large-format painting by artist Chus García Fraile from an antique shop at El Rastro. Photography by Germán Saiz.
