Tel Aviv Museum of Art Opens New Wing by Preston Scott Cohen
The Tel Aviv Museum of Art inaugurated a new wing on November 2, 2011, designed by Preston Scott Cohen, which has effectively doubled its exhibition area following eight years of fundraising and construction. This $55 million initiative was primarily supported by Paul and Herta Amir, whose names grace the wing. The expansion encompasses nearly 60,000 square meters, featuring a 3,000-square-meter gallery, areas dedicated to architecture and design, a photography study center, a library, an auditorium, and a restaurant. The five-story building boasts a 26.5-meter-high atrium and 465 distinct prefabricated concrete panels. The opening festivities showcase recent photographic acquisitions, works by Israeli designers, and a significant exhibition of new pieces by Anselm Kiefer, curated posthumously by Mordechai Omer.
