TEFAF Maastricht Returns for 35th Edition with 240+ Galleries
The European Fine Art Fair (TEFAF) returned to Maastricht from June 25 to 30, 2022, after a COVID-19 hiatus in 2021. Over 240 galleries from 20 nations exhibited at the MECC, with a slightly reduced number of exhibitors due to calendar overlaps. The fair, founded in 1988, celebrated its 35th anniversary. A Vetting Committee ensured quality across sections including Paintings, Antiquities, High Jewelry, Tribal Art, Modern Art, Old Masters, Design, Works on Paper, and Showcase (featuring six first-time galleries). Tom Postma Design (TPD) and Stabilo created the display, with floral arrangements by Ten Kate Flowers. Highlights included: a marble Torso of Apollo (1st-2nd century) at David Aaron; Luca Giordano's "Trionfo di Galatea" (1675) at Colnaghi, priced 10-12 million euros; a gilded silver horse trapper made for Sultan Selim III (r. 1789-1809), later gifted to Queen Victoria and the Marquess of Lothian, offered by Kent Antiques for 2 million euros; Giovanna Garzoni's "The Virgin of the Chair" (1649) at Rob Smiths; and a double solo show of Jacqueline Lamba and Jacques Prévert at Galerie Pauline Pavec in the Showcase section. Lamba's works (7,000-10,000 €) and Prévert's "Ephémérides" series (4,000-5,000 €) were featured.
