festival-fair · 2026-05-05

The 2018 edition of TEFAF Maastricht, the world's premier fair for fine art and antiques, opens on March 10 with preview days on March 8 and 9. Founded in 1988 by a group of dealers, the fair now features 275 galleries from 20 countries, spanning antiquities, Old Masters, Haute Joaillerie, contemporary painting, works on paper, and 20th-century design. Sixteen new exhibitors debut, including Italian galleries Massimo De Carlo (TEFAF Modern) and Walter Padovani (TEFAF Antiques). TEFAF Showcase, launched in 2008 to promote young galleries, features participants from Belgium, Switzerland, France, and the UK. The fair runs nearly ten days with extended hours (10 AM opening), a program of conferences and talks, and luxurious amenities such as floral decorations, velvet furnishings, and private jet traffic at Maastricht's airport. TEFAF has expanded to New York with two editions: TEFAF New York Fall (decorative arts from antiquity to 1920, during auction week) and TEFAF New York Spring (modern and contemporary art, antiques, and design, coinciding with Frieze New York). This U.S. expansion reflects New York's regained status as the global art market capital, amid competition between The Armory Show and Frieze New York.
