TEFAF Maastricht 2017 opens with $4.5M illuminated manuscript and rare Giambologna sculpture
The prestigious art and antiques fair, TEFAF Maastricht, takes place at the MECC exhibition center from March 10 to 19, 2017. This event presents an impressive 7,000 years of art history, featuring significant pieces available for purchase. Among the highlights are a 14th-century illuminated manuscript titled 'Histoire Ancienne jusqu’à César et Fait des Romains' (circa 1370-80), valued at $4.5 million from Les Enluminures, and Giambologna's 'Julius Caesar' (circa 1551) available through Tomasso Brothers Fine Art. Additionally, a Buddha from the Yuan/Ming dynasty fetched €1 million from Vanderven Oriental Art, while Hancocks showcases a 48-carat diamond tiara from 1914. TEFAF Modern includes works by Henry Moore and Jean Dubuffet, alongside a tribute to Italy with 'Galleria Borghese – An Italian Legacy.'
