digital · 2026-04-26

Swedish company Teenage Engineering has released the EP-1320 Medieval, a sampler, sequencer, and electronic composer that reproduces sounds of medieval musical instruments. Priced at €349, it features a library of phrases, ready instruments, and one-shot samples including hurdy-gurdies, lutes, Gregorian chants, and drums. It has a line input and internal microphone for sampling one's own sounds. The design uses Gothic lettering reminiscent of illuminated manuscripts by monk scribes, and key labels are in Latin. Accessories include a quilted carry bag, T-shirt, vinyl, and keychain. A promotional video depicts witchcraft initiation, falconry, battles, games, and medieval dances accompanied by drums, rattles, and lutes.
