Teatro Valdoca's 'Giuramenti' Debuts at Teatro Vascello in Rome

Teatro Valdoca's latest creation, 'Giuramenti,' directed by Cesare Ronconi and written by Mariangela Gualtieri, premiered at Teatro Vascello in Rome in 2018. The performance, developed over a year at Teatro Dimora di Mondaino, features twelve actors forming a choral ensemble. The work explores themes of animality, sacrifice, and rebirth through poetic language and stark staging, with a red backdrop and black costumes. The actors, with painted faces like sad marionettes, alternate between screams, melodies, and fragmented recitation in dialect, German, and gospel. The piece addresses Nazi extermination, rape brutality, and immigrant exploitation. A central ritual involves a funeral cart and a resurrected corpse. The second part includes an ode to 'No' as a pagan divinity, and a dialogue where the chorus advises 'ask the tree' to find silence. The finale remains open, urging engagement with contemporary reality rather than escape.
