Teatro Regio di Torino celebrates 50th anniversary with year-long program
The Teatro Regio di Torino, which was designed by Carlo Mollino and opened its doors on April 10, 1973, is marking its 50th anniversary with a series of events throughout the year. This theater was reconstructed after a devastating fire in 1966 destroyed the original building from 1740, created by Benedetto Alfieri. Mollino worked alongside Marcello Zavelani Rossi to design the venue, which features a concrete shell shaped like a violin and an egg-shaped auditorium. The festivities commence on April 10 with the lighting of the Mole Antonelliana, followed by free concerts during open-house days on April 15–16. Rai5 will broadcast the documentary "Regio 50. Ci vuole molto tempo per diventare giovani." Notable events include a gala concert featuring Verdi's "I Vespri siciliani" and a September exhibition dedicated to Mollino's artistry.
