Teatro Goldoni in Venice Reopens After Restoration for 400th Anniversary
Venice's oldest theater, the Teatro Goldoni, reopened last weekend after seven months of restoration, culminating in the 'Effetto Venezia' performance. The event also marked the transformation of the Associazione Teatro Stabile del Veneto into the Fondazione Teatro Stabile del Veneto, which manages the Teatro Goldoni, Teatro Verdi in Padua, and Teatro Mario Del Monaco in Treviso. The theater, built by the Vendramin family in 1622, was named after Carlo Goldoni in 1875, over a century after his death. The restoration cost €1,750,000, funded by the Comune di Venezia, and included new seating, electrical and audio upgrades, and fire prevention certification. The 'Effetto Venezia' show, directed by Fabrizio Arcuri, featured actors Giuseppe Battiston, Sonia Bergamasco, Roberto Citran, Isabella Ferrari, and Filippo Nigro, with a musical score by Teho Teardo. The 400th-anniversary celebrations will continue until February 2024, with the new season starting in November. On October 9, a tribute to the 60th anniversary of the Vajont disaster will feature Marco Paolini. The foundation aims to strengthen organization and private fundraising, as noted by Venice mayor Luigi Brugnaro, who envisions a 'great metropolitan city' uniting Venice, Padua, and Treviso through culture.
