Teatro Continuo Revived with Performances by Blake, Coppola, Bel, Nyampeta

festival-fair · 2026-05-05

The Teatro Continuo, a radical open-air stage created by Alberto Burri in 1973 for the XV Triennale di Milano, was reactivated during the XXI Triennale in 2016, coinciding with Miart week. The project, titled "Stage as a social platform," was initiated by law firm nctm Studio Legale under the curatorship of Gabi Scardi, who had previously supported the restoration of the Burri structure in 2015. Curated by Simone Frangi and Tommaso Sacchi, with assistance from Giovanna Manzotti, the program featured four artists over two days. On April 9, Alexis Blake performed "We Will Not Be Moved" with a group of migrant women and professional dancers, creating a new narrative of Milan's female social fabric. Luigi Coppola presented "Continuum," a ritual reconnection to the period when the Teatro Continuo was lost from local history (1989–2015). On April 10, following a talk moderated by Frangi, Sacchi, and Scardi at Teatro Agorà, Jérôme Bel staged "Compagnie, Compagnie," a dance involving both professional and non-professional performers, and Christian Nyampeta presented "The Lives of Ideas," turning Burri's concrete platform into a site for collective theoretical production.
