Teaching 6-Year-Olds What a Museum Is: A Virtual Field Trip to Brera

An educator conducted a virtual field trip to the Pinacoteca di Brera in Milan for first-grade students, introducing them to the concept of a museum. The activity involved brainstorming what a museum is, simulating a school trip with pretend bus ride and tickets, and exploring the museum's galleries via an interactive whiteboard. Students were particularly impressed by the sculpture of Napoleon Bonaparte. The class focused on Ercole de' Roberti's "Pala Portuense" (1479-81), discussing its content and emotions. The children then drew their favorite part of the experience. The initiative aimed to prepare students for future in-person visits and highlighted the importance of art education in primary school.
