TBD Ultramagazine's fourth issue 'Cattiva Luce' explores light's role in art, science, and mythology

TBD Ultramagazine, founded in 2019 by young scholars and art professionals, has released its fourth issue titled 'Cattiva Luce' (Bad Light), investigating the productive, political, and narrative role of natural and artificial light in contemporary technology and future evolutions. The issue opens with an essay by Eva Adduci on Nancy Holt's Land Art, focusing on her 1973 work 'Sun Tunnels' in Utah's Great Basin Desert. Other contributions include Giorgia Aprosio on tanning culture inspired by Gabriele Basilico's 1970s photographs, Amina Berdin on the sun in tarot iconography, Marco-Augusto Basso on solar creation myths across cultures, and Marco Musarò on Italian superstitions about noon sunlight, accompanied by Grazia Amelia Bellitta's photos of his 2022 installation 'WUE' at SPAZIO SU in Lecce. The volume also features post-apocalyptic works by Tommaso Remondini, Adam Bialek, Valeria Scrilatti, and Federico Antonini. A collaboration with Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro presents Dario Tettamanzi's photographs of 'Le vie del sé. Il labirinto Pomodoro tra simbolo e rizoma'. The cover artwork is 'The New Sun' by Polish artist Agnieszka Polka. Previous volumes 'BUIO!' and 'OMBRA' explored darkness and the link between technology and the paranormal.
