TBA21's Tidalectics Exhibition Explores Ocean Science and Art in Croatia

exhibition · 2026-05-04

The Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary Foundation (TBA21), under the direction of Francesca d'Asburgo, is showcasing 'Tidalectics' at both the Museum of Modern Art in Dubrovnik and the Franciscan Monastery on Lopud Island until September 30, 2018. Curated by Stefanie Hessler, this marks the inaugural TBA21-Academy project, following a 2017 exhibition in Vienna. The concept of 'Tidalectics,' a term created by Kamau Brathwaite, merges 'tide' with 'dialectic.' The exhibition features contributions from seventeen artists, including nine works from the foundation. Notable pieces include Eduardo Navarro's 'Hydrohexagrams (For Tahuata)' (2017), Alexander Lee's 'Me-ti'a – An Island Standing' (2017), and 'Your Black Horizon' (2005/2007) by Olafur Eliasson and David Adjaye on Lopud.
