Tattooed Laocoön by Fabio Viale Debuts at Munich's Königsplatz
After over a year of creative process, Fabio Viale (born 1975 in Cuneo, Italy) presents a new marble sculpture of the Laocoön, tattooed with colorful images from Dante's Inferno, on view from July 12, 2018 at Königsplatz in Munich. This is the first contemporary artwork displayed in the square in front of the Glyptothek Museum. The work follows his recent Souvenir Pietà | Madre, which inaugurated the Milanese branch of Galleria Poggiali. Inside the museum, Viale holds his first solo exhibition in a German museum, featuring eleven large-scale works that explore the contrast between classical beauty and contemporary tattooing, with marble disguised as wood, tire, polystyrene, or plastic. The exhibition runs until September 30, 2018.
