Tate Modern sued by luxury apartment residents over privacy violations

Residents of Neo Bankside, a luxury apartment complex adjacent to the Tate Modern in London, have filed a lawsuit against the museum, alleging constant privacy infringement and human rights violations. The dispute centers on the museum's new Switch House wing, designed by Herzog & de Meuron and inaugurated in June 2016. Its 360-degree viewing terrace offers direct sightlines into the glass-walled apartments, which were built to maximize city views. The residents claim they feel like "goldfish in a bowl," with the terrace becoming one of London's most photographed and Instagrammed spots. The Switch House, a ten-story structure funded by £260 million in public and private funds, houses part of the Tate's collection acquired since 2000, along with a bar, restaurant, shops, and the controversial terrace. The museum's design aimed to create an open platform for social encounters, but the proximity to private homes has sparked legal action. The plaintiffs argue that the constant observation violates their privacy and personal security, and they stand a serious chance of winning the case.
