Tate Modern Launches Online Tour of Andy Warhol Retrospective

exhibition · 2026-04-27

An online tour of the Tate Modern's Andy Warhol retrospective has been launched, following its opening on March 12 and subsequent closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Available on the museum's website, the tour is led by curators Gregor Muir and Fiontán Moran. Although the exhibition was set to run until September 6, it showcases over 100 pieces from Warhol's career, including early 1950s male figure drawings, the renowned Diptych of Marilyn (1962), Elvis I and II (1963/1964), Pink Race Riot (1964), Screen Tests (1964–1966), and a recreation of Exploding Plastic Inevitable (1966). Notably, The Last Suppers (1986) is displayed for the first time in the UK. The curators explore themes such as Warhol's immigrant roots, LGBTQI identity, and his views on death and religion, organizing the tour into 12 virtual rooms. Muir and Moran emphasize that Warhol has evolved into a brand that extends beyond the art scene.
