Tate Modern Launches Infinities Commission for Experimental Artists
On September 29, 2023, Tate announced a new annual initiative called Infinities Commission, aimed at supporting artists working in unconventional disciplines. The first edition will take place in 2024, with the winner exhibiting in spring 2025 in The Tanks, a subterranean space at Tate Modern dedicated to performance, film, and installations. The jury for the inaugural prize includes artist and musician Brian Eno, curator Oulimata Gueye, artist Anne Imhof, Andrea Lissoni (artistic director of Haus der Kunst in Munich), and Legacy Russell (executive director and curator of The Kitchen in New York). In addition to the winner, three other finalists will each receive £10,000 to fund their research and will participate in a group exhibition with a talk. All events related to Infinities Commission will be free to the public. Catherine Wood, director of programs at Tate Modern, stated that the commission aims to give innovative works a home and allow wider audiences to experience them.
