Tate Modern exhibitions director Achim Borchardt-Hume dies at 56
Achim Borchardt-Hume, who directed exhibitions at Tate Modern since 2012, has sadly passed away. He recently opened Anicka Yi's Turbine Hall commission and the exhibition on Rodin at the London gallery. Hailing from Düren, Germany, he studied art history in Bonn and Rome before relocating to London in 1992, where he earned a Ph.D. from Essex University focusing on Fascist Italian art and politics. His tenure at Tate began in 2005 as a curator, leading to influential exhibits like Mark Rothko in 2008. Before returning to Tate, he was chief curator at Whitechapel Gallery from 2009 to 2012. Borchardt-Hume believed museums should foster civic dialogue, allowing for reflection on memory and identity.
