institutional · 2026-04-20

Tate has entered a long-term strategic partnership with the Pudong Museum of Art in Shanghai, formalized through a memorandum of understanding signed on 12 June 2019 with the state-owned Shanghai Luijazui Group. Under this agreement, Tate will serve as a consultant and lend artworks from its collection to the museum, which is scheduled to open in mid-2021. The museum, designed by Atelier Jean Nouvel, began construction in 2017 in Shanghai's East Bund district. Zhu Di, General Director of the Art Department of China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism, expressed anticipation for the collaboration, highlighting its role in fostering cultural exchange between East and West and supporting Shanghai's global city aspirations. This partnership marks a significant institutional move for Tate, expanding its international influence through advisory and lending roles in China's burgeoning art scene.
