Tate Britain mounts largest UK retrospective of photographer Lee Miller, featuring 230 works

exhibition · 2026-04-09

From 2 October to 15 February 2026, Tate Britain in London is hosting an extensive retrospective of photographer Lee Miller. The exhibition showcases around 230 prints, including many previously unseen works, along with archival materials. Born in Poughkeepsie, New York, in 1907, Miller began her career as a model before relocating to Paris in 1929, where she worked with Man Ray. Her diverse portfolio encompasses surrealist art, commercial photography, and war reporting during World War II, where she contributed to British Vogue and documented the Blitz. As one of the few female war correspondents, she captured the liberation of Dachau. The exhibition underscores her travels, portraits, and impact on modern photographers, highlighting her challenge to gender norms in avant-garde photography.
