Tankers Targeted Near Strait of Hormuz Off Oman

In separate events near Oman’s Strait of Hormuz, two tankers were attacked. The first incident took place about 11 nautical miles northeast of Lima, where an unidentified projectile hit a tanker, damaging its engine room and leaving it adrift. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) confirmed that there were no injuries or environmental damage. A second incident occurred 21 nautical miles northeast of Khasab, where the captain of another tanker witnessed a significant splash and explosion nearby, but no harm was reported. Both locations are situated on Oman’s Musandam Peninsula, a vital shipping route for nearly one-fifth of the world’s oil. The UKMTO, a Royal Navy entity, issued the alerts amid rising regional tensions and ongoing security issues. The cause of these incidents is still being investigated, with no group taking responsibility.
