Tanino Liberatore's 'Di corpi e frammenti' Opens at CLAP Museum in Pescara
The CLAP Museum, a new four-level exhibition space dedicated to comics, has opened in Pescara with a solo show of Tanino Liberatore titled 'Di corpi e frammenti.' The exhibition, organized by Fondazione Pescarabruzzo in collaboration with Comicon Napoli, runs until March 26, 2023. It features over 100 works, including 70 previously unseen in Italy, spanning comics, large-format illustrations, and drawings. The show is structured thematically, highlighting Liberatore's focus on the human body, eroticism, and cultural references. Works include the iconic cyborg Ranxerox (created with Stefano Tamburini), illustrations of the australopithecine Lucy (previously shown at MANN in Naples), and comics inspired by Charles Baudelaire's 'Les Fleurs du Mal.' Liberatore, born in Chieti in 1953 and based in Paris, returns to his hometown region. The exhibition also includes a permanent display of works by his friend Andrea Pazienza. The nickname 'Michelangelo of comics' was coined by Frank Zappa in the 1980s after seeing Liberatore's work in Frigidaire magazine.
