Tamy Ben-Tor, Mike Kelley, Bruno Peinado in New York Galleries
In winter 2005, three exhibitions opened in New York. At Zach Feuer Gallery in Chelsea, Tamy Ben-Tor (performing as Nathalie Djurberg) presented videos exploring idiocy, including 'Women about Hitler' (2005) parodying Women studies intellectuals, and 'Girls beware' (2005), a xenophobic parody of prevention campaigns about 'arab boys'. At Gagosian Gallery, Mike Kelley's installation 'Extracurricular Activity Projective Reconstructions' recreated 1970s American high school carnival fantasies with satanic and gothic imagery, featuring 32 chapters of 'Day is done' projected simultaneously, a soundtrack by Scott Benzel and Mike Kelley, and animated furniture including 'Lonely vampire'. At Parker's Box in Brooklyn, Bruno Peinado installed translucent crates forming a white luminous forest and an organic forest hanging from the ceiling, titled 'Lo-revolution'. The exhibitions ran from November 11 to December 17 (Kelley), November 18 to December 24 (Peinado), and November 17 to January 14 (Ben-Tor).
