Tamron Firmware Update Boosts 25-200mm Lens to Half-Macro Performance
Tamron has rolled out firmware version 3.00 for their 25-200mm f/2.8-5.6 Di III VXD G2 lens (Model A075), which boosts its close-up focusing features. The update allows for a maximum magnification of 1:2 in the 25-70mm range and 1:1.7 at 35-50mm, a notable upgrade from the earlier 1:3.1 at 50mm. This change came after Chris Niccolls’ review on PetaPixel, which pointed out the lens's close-up ability was only 1:1.9 at 25mm, requiring a very short distance. Now, at 50mm, photographers can work with a longer distance, reducing shadows and distortion. You can download the firmware via the Tamron Lens Utility app for Windows and macOS, and the lens retails for $899 for Sony E-mount.
