Citing their work in a Kurdish refugee camp in Iraq two years prior, they observed that informal spaces like the suq spontaneously became centers of community life, suggesting such spaces should be planned from the start. For earthquake recovery, they advocate for 'therapeutic architecture' that creates beautiful, welcoming environments—even in temporary shelters—through frugal gestures like trees, colored walls, and clean buildings.
