Taller General's Collective Architecture: From Quito to Community

Founded in 2017 in Quito by Martín Real and Florencia Sobrero, Taller General is an architecture firm that engages in various sectors, including housing, rehabilitation, exhibitions, and community initiatives. Rather than focusing on a single building type, the practice emphasizes collaboration among architects, builders, craftspeople, students, organizations, and communities, with each project influenced by its unique context. This approach is rooted in the hands-on construction experience Real and Sobrero gained prior to establishing their studio through Actuemos Ecuador, a civil society response to the 2016 earthquake along Ecuador's coast. The constraints of materials, budgets, labor, and local expertise have fostered a deep connection with construction that remains integral to their work.
