Taller General: Collective Architecture Practice in Quito

Taller General, an architecture collective founded in Quito in 2017 by Martín Real and Florencia Sobrero, is the subject of a recent article on ArchDaily. The practice focuses on housing, rehabilitation, exhibitions, and community projects, unified not by a building typology but by a collaborative construction process. Architects, builders, artisans, students, organizations, and communities engage in the process, allowing each project to evolve from existing conditions. This approach stems from their direct experience on site, particularly their involvement with Actuemos Ecuador, a civil society initiative formed after the 2016 earthquake on Ecuador's coast. Working under real construction conditions linked architectural decisions to materials, budgets, available labor, and local knowledge, establishing a relationship with the construction process that remains central to their practice.
