TAKK transforms MAXXI entrance into multispecies garden with rest spaces and edible plants

exhibition · 2026-05-21

Barcelona- and New York-based studio TAKK has installed 'con-vivere' in the entrance hall of Zaha Hadid's MAXXI – National Museum of 21st Century Arts in Rome, Italy. The installation is the second chapter of ENTRATE, a long-term program curated by Martina Muzi for MAXXI's Architecture and Design Department. It features six mobile installations that transform the lobby into a landscape for coexistence, including a former jacuzzi reimagined as a communal fountain, a six-meter-wide circular sofa for collective rest, a tower for growing edible Mediterranean plants, a wellness bed for guided meditation, and a shared workspace. The project uses circular forms, greenhouse luminaires, aromatic plants, and low-carbon materials to create spaces for slowness and care. TAKK was founded by architects Mireia Luzárraga and Alejandro Muiño. Collaborators include Lucas Vierkötter, Oriol Pinell, Lluc Rovira, Casa Protea (botanical design), Susanna Tomatini (graphic design), and Gerardo Gorris Ge-Go (metallic structures). The opening performance was by La Pili. Photographs are by José Hevia.
