Takeshi Murata's First Polish Solo Show at Kasia Michalski Gallery

Takeshi Murata (Chicago, 1974) presents his first solo exhibition in Poland at Kasia Michalski Gallery in Warsaw, running until July 28, 2016. The show, titled 'Second Nature,' features large-format digital prints of still lifes with objects like VHS cases, a pianola, and lemons in computer-generated settings, exploring intersections of mainstream and underground culture. The second section includes videos from 2010–2015, such as 'I, Popeye' (2010), which reinterprets film fragments through digital rendering and aggressive audio. The exhibition concludes with the kinetic sculpture 'Melter 3-D' (2014), a metal sphere that appears to liquefy under strobe lights. Murata's work is compared to Giorgio Morandi for its detached, classical compositions that evoke sensation without narrative. The gallery, active for only a year, has established itself as a prominent Polish international art space.
