Takashi Murakami's Monogram Multicolor trams roll through Milan

exhibition · 2026-04-26

Two historic trams decorated with Takashi Murakami's Monogram Multicolor pattern are traversing Milan from January 8 to 28, 2025, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Louis Vuitton x Murakami collaboration. The trams, provided by public transport company ATM, feature a cinema tram in blue tones projecting videos and images of Murakami's creative universe for the Maison, and a literary café tram in pink with Monogram Multicolor-covered tables. Departure points are Piazza Castello for the cinema tram and Piazza Fontana for the literary café tram, where visitors are greeted by canopies decorated with the LV Hands logo designed by Murakami in the early 2000s. Rides are free but require booking via the Louis Vuitton website or customer service, and slots appear already fully booked. The initiative is part of a three-chapter series from winter to autumn 2025 including pop-up windows, pop-in activations, in-store events, and a dedicated advertising campaign. The final Milan stop is the Louis Vuitton store in Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, where a space redesigned with Murakami's aesthetic showcases the entire Louis Vuitton x Murakami collection. In Rome, Cinema Spazio Etoile will screen anime shorts created 20 years ago by Murakami for the collaboration, including Superflat Monogram by director Mamoru Hosoda and Superflat First Love.
