Taiwanese photographer and filmmaker Chang Chao-tang dies at 81

Taiwanese artist Chang Chao-tang, known for his impactful photography and filmmaking, passed away on April 2, 2024, in Taipei at the age of 81. Born in 1943, Chang was inspired by documentary photographer Cheng Shang-hsi during his school years. He began his career as a civil engineering student before delving into the arts in the 1960s. Throughout his career, he worked at China Television Company and earned accolades for his documentaries, including "The Boat Burning Festival" and "Gu Cuo." In 2022, he was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award. He will receive the posthumous Outstanding Contribution Award at the Taiwan International Documentary Festival in May 2024.
