Taiwan's C-LAB presents 'Double Echoing' exhibition at 13th Gwangju Biennale exploring shared histories

exhibition · 2026-04-20

Between February 26 and May 9, 2021, the Taiwan Contemporary Culture Lab (C-LAB) presented 'Double Echoing' at the Asia Culture Center during the Gwangju Biennale in Gwangju, Korea. Curated by Wu Dar-Kuen, the exhibition showcased 14 artists who examined the shared political histories of Taiwan and South Korea, highlighting issues such as state violence, Taiwan's White Terror, and significant historical tragedies. A key piece in the exhibition was Huang Rung-Tsan's woodcut 'The Terrible Inspection,' which reflects on Taiwan's 228 Incident of 1947. Additionally, C-LAB re-commissioned four works from the Green Island Human Rights Art Festival. The event was part of the Gwangju Biennale's human rights theme, supported by Gwangju Metropolitan City and various cultural organizations, aiming to promote healing of historical wounds.
