Taisuke Koyama's 'Waves and Particles' at Metronom, Modena

exhibition · 2026-05-04

At Metronom gallery in Modena, Taisuke Koyama presents 'Waves and Particles', a solo exhibition exploring the dual nature of light through digital photography. The Japanese artist (born 1978 in Tokyo), originally trained as a biologist, investigates digital technologies applied to photography. The show features three series: 'Photons', where out-of-focus solar reflections are decomposed into RGB primary colors; 'Lightfield', which uses scanner light to create abstract landscapes; and 'Pico', based on 1,500x magnifications of single pixels that reveal irregular surfaces reminiscent of analog film grain. The exhibition includes Picoroll installations occupying the gallery space. Koyama also developed an app for the Pico series that operates on the same principle.
