Tai Ping Opens Milan Showroom with Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance's Raw Collection

architecture-design · 2026-05-04

During Milan Design Week 2019, luxury carpet brand Tai Ping opened its first permanent showroom in Milan's Brera district at Piazza San Simpliciano, presenting the 'Raw' collection by French designer Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance. The collection features cold colors and textured patterns inspired by stone, referencing primitive cave architecture. Duchaufour-Lawrance, born in 1974, interprets Tai Ping's philosophy of blending traditional hand-weaving with modern technology. The designer states his work always references nature's universal language, specifically the language of rocks in their natural or human-modified state. Tai Ping was founded in Hong Kong in 1956 by seven friends including Lawrence Kadoorie, son of philanthropist Sir Elly Kadoorie. The company now has headquarters in Hong Kong, flagship stores in New York (at 860 Broadway, former site of Andy Warhol's Factory), Shanghai, and Paris, with showrooms worldwide. Tai Ping's clients include the British royal family, having provided carpeting for Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle. The brand has collaborated with designers such as Philippe Starck, Patricia Urquiola, Antonio Citterio, and Kenzo.
