T MUB: First Temporary Museum Dedicated to Umberto Boccioni to Open in Morciano di Romagna

institutional · 2026-04-27

A new museum dedicated to Umberto Boccioni, the Futurist pioneer, is being established in Morciano di Romagna, province of Rimini, the birthplace of the artist's parents. The project, named T MUB, is spearheaded by Giuliano Cardellini, an artist and lawyer from Rimini, who was inspired by Filippo Tommaso Marinetti's 1930s wish for a Boccioni museum. The permanent site, the family home, is currently uninhabitable, so a temporary museum has been created under the Fondazione Boccioni. The foundation's president and director is Cardellini, with Alberto Dambruoso and Zuzanna Adamus as original members, and Beatrice Buscaroli as vice president and museum director. Buscaroli lamented Italy's lack of a dedicated Futurism museum, noting that major Futurist works are abroad. The temporary space aims to collect documents, photographs, and original works, and will feature 15 panels, a central space, and a glass display case containing the Manifesto of Futurist Painters, Boccioni's catalogues, videos, photographs, a mystery box, and a period magazine. Collaborators include Michela Barausse, Francesca Baboni, and Luca Rendina. The museum is funded by public and private contributions, memberships, and donations. A membership campaign will launch soon to cover expenses. The inauguration is planned for March/April 2021, pending COVID-19 developments. The foundation's website, fondazioneboccioni.org, will be active shortly.
