Symposium on 1998 São Paulo Biennial at Escola São Paulo

On April 13, 2024, Escola São Paulo in São Paulo will host a symposium titled 'XXIV Bienal de São Paulo: Anthropophagy and Cannibalism Histories.' This event, organized by Lisette Lagnado, will serve as a platform for her upcoming book focusing on the 24th Bienal de São Paulo, which is included in Afterall's Exhibition Histories series. The 1998 biennial, under the curation of Paulo Herkenhoff, is recognized as a pivotal moment in curatorial history. Featured speakers will include Fabio Cypriano, Pablo Lafuente, Mirtes Marins de Oliveira, Tania Rivera, Renato Sztutman, and Lisette Lagnado. Co-organizers include Escola São Paulo, Afterall, and Central Saint Martins, collaborating with the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, Bard College's Center for Curatorial Studies, and Van Abbemuseum. The book series is published by Koenig Books, London.
