Sylvie Patry returns to Musée d’Orsay as deputy director after two years at Barnes Foundation

institutional · 2026-04-20

Sylvie Patry, who currently serves as the chief curator at the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia, is set to depart for the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, where she will take on the role of deputy director for curatorial affairs and collections—a position she previously occupied until 2015. She will remain a consultant for the Barnes until 2019, contributing to a catalogue raisonné of Cézanne’s works and managing forthcoming exhibitions, including Mohamed Bourouissa: Urban Riders, scheduled from 30 June to 2 October. An authority on Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art, Patry began her career at the Musée d’Orsay in 2005 after stints at various prestigious institutions. Her exit represents a notable transition for both museums, as the Barnes Foundation looks to appoint a new chief curator while leveraging Patry’s expertise on essential projects.
