Sydney Contemporary 2025 Adds Photography Section, Jack Ball Wins Ramsay Art Prize, and KIAF Seoul Announces Lineup
Sydney Contemporary 2025 will introduce Photo Sydney, a dedicated photography section curated with input from Sandy Edwards and selected by a committee including Margot Riley, Merilyn Fairskye, Gael Newton, and Alasdair Foster. The fair runs September 11–14 at Carriageworks with 114 exhibitors. Jack Ball won the AUD 100,000 Ramsay Art Prize on May 30 for their installation Heavy Grit (2024), which explores transgender experiences using materials like stained glass and beeswax, drawing from Australian Queer Archives materials. The Art Gallery of South Australia will acquire the work and exhibit finalists until August 31. KIAF Seoul 2025, running September 4–7 at COEX Convention & Exhibition Center, features 176 exhibitors including newcomers like Art of Nature Contemporary and hide gallery, alongside returning participants such as 333Gallery and Galerie Marguo. Frieze Seoul's fourth edition, also at COEX from September 4–6, includes 120 exhibitors across sections like Galleries, Focus Asia, and Frieze Masters, with participants like Gagosian and Antenna Space. The Suter Art Gallery removed Diane Prince's work Flagging the Future (1995) after 19 days due to escalating discourse, echoing its 1995 removal at Auckland Art Gallery. The 13th Seoul Mediacity Biennale, titled 'Séance: Technology of the Spirit,' runs August 26 to November 23 at Seoul Museum of Art, featuring 49 artists exploring occult themes under artistic directors Anton Vidokle, Hallie Ayres, and Lukas Brasiskis.
