Sydney Biennale 2026 Announces 'Rememory' Theme and Initial Artist List

festival-fair · 2026-04-20

Scheduled from 14 March to 14 June 2026, the 25th Biennale of Sydney will embrace the theme 'Rememory,' drawing inspiration from Toni Morrison. Hoor Al Qasimi, the Artistic Director, aims to highlight marginalized histories and the significance of memory in shaping identity. A total of thirty-seven artists, featuring 15 First Nation contributors, will create new works in partnership with the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain. Curator Bruce Johnson McLean, from the Wierdi Birri Gubba Nation, will work alongside them. Notable participants include Marian Abboud and Abdul Abdullah. Exhibitions will be held at the Art Gallery of New South Wales and Campbelltown Arts Centre. A children’s program will foster intergenerational storytelling, guided by Claudia Chidiac and Paula Abood. Further information will be provided later.
