Swiss publisher Artphilein releases two photography books on Latin America
Swiss publisher Artphilein has released two photography books focused on Latin America. The first, "Dead Cow Rising/Vaca Muerta Asciende" by Argentine-Swedish photographer Andreas Billman, documents the Vaca Muerta region in Argentine Patagonia, where shale oil and gas are extracted. This is Billman's second volume exploring Argentina's growing economic potential as a non-renewable energy exporter, set against the country's high inflation. The book includes essays by Gerry Badger, Daniel G. Gerold, and Billman himself. The second volume, "Mi perro" by Ronald Pizzoferrato, examines the bond between inmates and dogs in Latin American prisons, particularly in Venezuela, where prisoners are allowed to care for dogs. The book features intimate portraits of men and animals in harsh prison environments, with a section reproducing individual animal record cards. Both books were published in 2023.
