Swiss Pavilion at Venice Biennale to Feature Immersive Installation by Boudry/Lorenz

exhibition · 2026-05-04

The Swiss Pavilion at the 2019 Venice Biennale will present 'Moving Backwards', a large-scale immersive installation by artist duo Pauline Boudry and Renate Lorenz, curated by Charlotte Laubard. Laubard, head of visual arts at HEAD Geneva and director of LiveInYourHead, has long admired the duo's work, which combines glamour and critique to deconstruct social and sexual identities. The project responds to curator Ralph Rugoff's theme of art's social function in uncertain times, proposing retrograde motion as a form of resistance. Boudry and Lorenz began collaborating in the late 1990s and officially formed their duo in 2007. Their work has been shown internationally, including at CAPC Bordeaux, which Laubard directed. The installation will transform the pavilion into a sensory environment engaging both mind and body.
