Swiss Gallery Patricia Low Contemporary Opens Venice Outpost on Grand Canal

On April 1, 2023, Patricia Low Contemporary, a Swiss gallery established in 2005 in Gstaad, will inaugurate its first Italian branch at the historic Palazzo Contarini Michiel, located on the Grand Canal in Venice’s Dorsoduro district, nestled between Ca' Rezzonico and Palazzetto Stern, directly across from Palazzo Grassi. While continuing its operations in Gstaad, the gallery has previously utilized temporary venues in Geneva (2009-2012) and St. Moritz (2011-2014). The opening exhibition, titled 'Our Secret Garden,' will showcase American artist Amy Bessone, followed by British artist Philip Colbert’s pop sculptures during the Architecture Biennale. The gallery represents prominent figures like Maurizio Cattelan and Damien Hirst, alongside emerging artists such as Richard Kennedy and Brian Rochefort. The location was formerly occupied by Galleria Ca' Rezzonico. Patricia Low referenced Marcel Proust's reflections on Venice, stating, "my dream had become – incredibly, but very simply – my address." This new venue contributes to Venice's expanding contemporary art landscape, joining recent establishments like Galleria IN'EI and Barbati Gallery.
