Swedish studio Front creates LED lamp from real soap bubbles

architecture-design · 2026-05-05

Swedish design studio Front has created the Surface Tension Lamp, a LED bulb made from real soap bubbles that continuously regenerates. When off, only the minimal LED structure is visible; when on, it produces an endless succession of bubbles. The project aims to generate infinite chromatic variations in a space. The designers focused on the bubble's fragile, transient nature and its unpredictable light reflection. Front estimates that over the LED's 50,000-hour lifespan, the bulb will assume over three million different shades.
